With his humble beginnings, singing in piano bars and competing in singing contests, he rose to fame with the release of his debut album, “Il Mare Calmo Della Sera”, in 1994, entering the Italian top 10 and achieving platinum certification within weeks. It was, however, his recording of “Time to Say Goodbye” with British soprano Sarah Brightman that grabbed attention globally. The single topped the German charts, reached over 1 million sales, and achieved platinum status six times. The single also received the ECHO Music Award for the Best Single of the Year.
Opera is Andrea Bocelli’s first love. He made his operatic debut when playing the role of Rodolfo in “La Bohème” in 1998, with his fifth album, “Aria: The Opera Album”, released shortly thereafter. He is the recipient of two World Music Awards, one in the category of Best Italian Singer and another for Best Classical Interpretation. His duet with Canadian singer Céline Dion, “The Prayer”, won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Song, as well as a Grammy Award nomination.
