The Doobie Brothers, who have won several Grammy Awards, got their start in 1970, enjoyed success until 1982, and then decided to go on an indefinite break. The band reunited in 1987 for a series of benefit concerts at the Hollywood Bowl for the benefit of children and veterans, after having earned millions of dollars and getting an outpouring of support from their devoted following who wanted to see them perform again.
The album Best of the Doobies was given the Diamond certification in 1976 for having sold 10 million copies. As a result of the band's worldwide album sales reaching over 40 million copies, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the year 2020 as well as the Vocal Hall of Fame in the year 2004. The Doobie Brothers were planning to celebrate their 50th anniversary with a tour that was to begin in February 2020, but had to call it off owing to scheduling issues after only three months.
In October 2021, the band published its 15th studio album. For the first time in 11 years, the album was composed entirely of newly written music. The entire album, including songs such as "Black Water," "Listen to the Music," and "Takin' it to the Streets," was composed or recorded during the pandemic that occurred in the year 2020.
