Bellator 272 fight card: Bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis defends his title against Kyoji Horiguchi, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on Friday, December 3rd, 2021.
It’s going to be a huge night at the Mohegan Sun Arena as the current Bantamweight champion, Sergio Pettis sets up to defend his bantamweight title for the first time. This main card fight is against none other than former Bellator and RIZIN champion, Kyoji Horiguchi. The pair of top 135-pounders will meet on December 3rd inside the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut
Pettis (21-5 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) earned his first major promotional title with a grueling decision win over champion Juan Archuleta in May. Pettis, 28, has now won four straight fights, including victories over Ricky Bandejas, Alfred Khashakyan, and Tyson Nam, inside the Bellator cage to claim the belt. He surprisingly left UFC after taking a decision in a flyweight bout over Tyson Nam in September 2019 and has since looked incredible back at 135 pounds.
Horiguchi (29-3 MMA, 1-0 BMMA), meanwhile, returns to Bellator for the first time as a rostered fighter on a multifight deal, after an extended run with RIZIN. The Japanese superstar made one appearance previously in the Bellator cage, earning a unanimous decision over Darrion Caldwell to claim the bantamweight crown in a champion vs. champion fight, the second time he had beat Caldwell in a six-month span. Horiguchi, however, was forced to vacate the belt when he suffered an injury just a few months later.
Since his departure from the UFC in November 2016, Horiguchi has won the RIZIN bantamweight title twice and went 10-1 with wins over Caldwell (twice), Ian McCall, Manel Kape, and Kai Asakura.
Also, on the Undercard tonight, we have;
Josh Hill vs. Jared Scroggins
Keoni Diggs vs. John de Jesus
